About

Milandhoo's harbour sits on the island's southern shore and is where boats and launches come and go. MTCC began a major harbour development project here in May 2023, including a new basin, a 583 m breakwater, a quay wall, two bridges and a 130 m jetty. The government has also announced that, under the Milandhoo Airport plans, a new harbour will replace the existing one, so the layout may change in coming years.

Work idle at 53%

MTCC's project tracker lists the harbour upgrade (PRJ-00544) as idle, 53% complete, in its update of 20 October 2026. It was awarded to MTCC on 8 December 2022 with completion planned for 5 January 2025. The work covers 99,238 cbm of dredging, a 316 m quay wall, 701 m of rock shore protection, a 130 m jetty, a 74 m bridge and 3,863 sqm of paving.

Temporary relocation under way

Once reclamation finished, the harbour area was reported to be moving temporarily to make way for airport construction, with provision for it in the airport design.
